Banks rarely tell SMEs why a loan was declined. This training does.

Learn what banks and lenders really look at, fix the gaps in your credit profile, and apply with confidence. Practical, jargon-free, face-to-face training by a former Head of Credit Risk.

Profitable, paying on time, and still declined?

Most SME owners are good at running a business, not at reading a bank's credit assessment. The gap between those two is where loans get lost.

Watch Alex and John at the kopitiam. Three banks, three rejections, and no proper reason given. It takes 2 minutes.
  • Profitable, and still declined

Healthy books, ten years of clean repayments, and the answer is still no. Often with no proper reason.

  • Three banks, three rejections

Each rejection stays on your record. Applying again without fixing the cause makes it worse.

  • Approved, but at a price

A higher risk premium, a lower financing margin, stricter covenants and extra collateral all cost real money.

  • Weeks lost to back-and-forth

Missing documents, slow replies to the banker's queries and valuation delays stretch a few weeks into months.

  • No idea how the bank sees you

CCRIS, CTOS, DSCR, gearing. Banks score all of it, and few owners are ever shown how.

Banks read your business through five lenses

Every credit decision comes back to the 5Cs. Weakness in any one of them raises your risk rating, and your interest rate with it.

CapacityCapitalCollateralCharacterConditions
Before: high riskAfter: bankable

Illustrative profile, not a real company.

  • CapacityCan your cash flow repay the loan? Banks look for a debt service coverage ratio of at least 1.25x.
  • CapitalHow much of the business is your own money? Net worth and gearing show how much cushion you have.
  • CollateralIf things go wrong, does the security cover the loan? Valuations and insurance need to be current.
  • CharacterDo you pay on time and disclose everything? CCRIS, CTOS and your account conduct tell the story.
  • ConditionsHow does your sector look? Concentration on one customer or one market raises questions.

Fix the file before the banker opens it

You can't change the bank's criteria. You can change the evidence you put in front of them.

  • Faster approvals

Complete, consistent applications cut the back-and-forth that slows processing.

  • Better rates

A stronger risk profile qualifies for lower risk-based pricing and better financing terms.

  • Documents bankers trust

Audit-ready financials and organised records that build confidence at the credit desk.

  • Room to grow

A solid credit track record is what unlocks larger limits as your business scales.

Questions SME owners ask

Can't find your answer? Message Simon directly.

Who is this training for?

Owners, directors and finance managers of Malaysian SMEs who want to borrow, or want to borrow on better terms. No banking background needed.

Is the programme HRDC claimable?

Yes. The programme is HRDC claimable. Employers registered with HRD Corp can claim the training fees, subject to their levy balance and HRD Corp's claim rules. Ask us for the details you need for your application.

Is the training online?

No. The workshop is delivered face to face, because the case exercises, group discussions and live Q&A need real interaction with Simon and the other participants.

Do I need to be applying for a loan right now?

No, and it's better if you aren't. The roadmap runs over 30 days, 90 days and 12 months, so starting early gives you time to fix problems before a banker sees them.

Will this guarantee my loan is approved?

No. Lenders make every credit decision. The training helps you understand their criteria, strengthen your profile and present a complete application. It is education, not financial advice, and Simon does not arrange loans.

What's the difference between public and in-house?

Public workshops are open sessions on fixed dates, where you learn alongside other SMEs. In-house training is delivered for your own team, with examples tuned to your industry and a schedule that suits you.

How much does it cost?

Fees depend on the format, group size and venue. Request a quote and you'll get a clear answer. You can also try the free 2-hour preview session first.

What do I take home?

The Bankability Self-Assessment, the 65-item Loan Readiness Checklist, a 30-day, 90-day and 12-month roadmap, and worked case studies you can reuse.
